TE 802: Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice 1: Literacy
Christina Ponzio Fall 2017 As an Intern, this course helped me develop strategies to teach literacy skills as a teacher. Through this course, I was able to design, teach, and analyze lessons that I created based on formative assessments and individual learning needs. This course gave me the confidence to teach whole group and small group lessons through reading and writing. This course gave me the foundation in how to be an effective educator.
TE 803: Professional Role and Teaching Practice 1: Social Studies
Adam Schmitt Spring 2018 This course deepened my knowledge and understanding of Social Studies education. This course gave me first hand knowledge in how to design classroom experiences that are culturally relevant and powerful to foster student learning. We did this by selecting a few instructional strategies that addressed teaching objectives and learning styles.
TE 804: Reflection and Inquiry Teaching Practice 2: Science
Marti Beitner-Miller Spring 2018 This course deepened my knowledge of science education and had an emphasis on inquiry based teaching. I learned how to develop an instructional sequence, determine learning goals, and analyze resources to plan meaningful science lessons in the classroom.
CEP 810: Teaching Understanding within Technology
Deborah McHorney-Enokian and Stephanie Jennings Fall 2020 Over the course of eight weeks, I took the time to understand technology. Through exploring technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK), professional learning networks (PLN), networked learning, and 21st Century Learning, I was able to demonstrate my understanding using blog posts. Through blog posts, I was able to display multimedia presentations of what I learned. While reading Bransford et al., How People Learn: Brain, Mind, Experience, and School: Expanded Edition, I used the concepts of experts and novices throughout the course in my networked learning project and my 21st century lesson planning. This course has presented applications of 21st century skills that I will use consistently in my classroom.
CEP 818: Creativity in Teaching and Learning
Brooke Thomas Harris Fall 2020 This class allowed me to think outside the box when it comes to teaching and learning. It made me view both perspectives of how the teacher teaches and how students learn. Each week we were responsible for representing one way of creativity through different lenses. Some of the creativity came through Tik-Toks, infographics, and poems, for example. I learned that all students learn differently and that it is okay to express creativity in different ways.
CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Nicole Zumpano Spring 2021 Over the course of 16 weeks, I learned how technology is integrated within leadership in education. Through the course, I learned about the different types of leaders and how they can be differentiated. Then, I took those components of being a leader and put them into use by creating a professional development that I used at my workplace. Once I learned the basics of leadership, the class moved to learning about creating a vision locally, talking about issues of education, and then finally moving to a large-scale global vision. Overall the class transformed the way I see leadership in the workplace.
CEP 800: Learning in School and Other Settings
Stephanie Jennings and Kyle Shack Spring 2021 In this course I learned about learning. I created my own theory of learning that included what I previously knew about learning. Through out the course, I continued to add to this theory of learning each week as I learned more. I really liked learning about social learning. It showed that we learn through observation, modeling and video. I was able to see that experts can teach something through learning. Learning occurs through assessments, in and out of school and wherever we go. We learn through our environment and through the people around us. Learning happens everywhere.
CEP 820: Teaching Students Online
Edie Erickson and Anne Heintz Summer 2021 In this course, I created an online course module from start to finish. This class let me think about what students really need when learning online. One important aspect of the course was how much of a presence you need to be in the class, so students see you interacting with the material as well. In my module, I created videos for students so they could easily know what to do. Another thing that is important to an online course is having a communication policy. This creates ways for the student to interact with the teacher, but all show students how they should act whether between themselves and the teacher or another student.
CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
Michael Lachney and Dr. Marissa Zhu Fall 2021 In this course, I explored alternative methods of research by exploring quantitive, qualitative, and humanistic research. I was able to complete several survey designs and get data through field notes. Through the unit on humanistic research, I worked on a critical making project for third grade class to count change using a Makey Makey Kit and Game Lab.
CEP 807: Capstone Portfolio Showcase
Matthew Koehler and Aric Gaunt Spring 2022 In this course, we reflected on the culmination of our learning through the Masters of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program. Through this course, I created an online portfolio to house artifacts of my learning, while reflecting on our past and future goals.
