I am writing to express my interest in this position. I am drawn to this position because I want to make a positive difference in the lives of young people in an acclaimed district that is committed to providing a high-quality education for all students. This past year, I had the pleasure of teaching 23 eager second graders at the Detroit Leadership Academy in Detroit, Michigan. Beginning my career by teaching in an urban environment gave me an opportunity to develop my instructional and classroom management strategies in a high-needs area. Through this experience, I have learned a host of successful and engaging ways to increase attention and bolster self-regulation skills by shortening my direct instruction lessons and using stations for learning, fun transition phrases, a ticket program, table points, class dojo, incentives, and many other positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS). I believe my ability to foster a constructive, uplifting learning environment makes me an ideal candidate for this role.
One of my core beliefs as an educator is that all students can learn. Likewise, I believe I am capable of reaching all students, starting by meeting them at their level, and then moving them forward in their learning through high-quality instruction, intervention, and extension. I have learned how to maximize my limited resources by crafting lessons that build upon student’s interests using kinesthetic, visual, auditory, and tactile components. I believe that lessons should be fun and engaging in order to maintain and enhance student interest while promoting learning and growth. I use the workshop model of instruction as my primary lesson structure, which gives me innumerable opportunities to incorporate students’ interests while I confer with them and help them build and apply their skills. Using the workshop model has also helped me build strong relationships with my students as I regularly work with them individually and in small groups.
Through these relationships, we are able to accelerate progress in a respectful, caring environment. I am a hardworking teacher who is dedicated to creating a classroom where students can learn, grow, and thrive as both learners and as human beings. Along those lines, I helped launch a PBIS team at my school in order to promote positive, productive behaviors on a school-wide scale. I am proud of the work I have done on behalf of the students and families at Detroit Leadership Academy, and I look forward to continuing my development as an educator with other like-minded professionals in a new district as we work together to provide students with an exemplary education.
Beyond my teaching experiences and pedagogical skills, I believe my tremendous work ethic and endless enthusiasm make me a perfect fit to serve as this teaching position for your school community. With a lifelong passion for education, a Bachelor’s in Education, a Master’s in Educational Technology, several years of experience in urban education, I am excited about the idea of working alongside your staff and administration to help students flourish as learners and leaders.
I have attached my resume for further reference, and I am happy to provide any additional information, including my professional portfolio, that might assist in the decision-making process. I would relish the opportunity to discuss this position further, and I am available for a personal interview at your request. Thank you for your time and consideration.
